I also got lots of ideas from the website Wedding Gawkr which is great!

We were so excited when we heard that Dorota and Michal would be our photographers because we had looked at their work on the WhiteSmoke Studio website A LOT beforehand and we absolutely loved the natural way they captured important wedding day moments, whether romantic, touching, serious or simply fun. We didn’t want many posed photos as we both freeze when faced with a camera, but this didn’t happen at all on the wedding day working with Dorota and Michal as they’re so lovely and relaxed. We (and our parents and friends) loved all the photos so much and it was almost impossible to whittle them down! We were able to create a wonderful album of everything special that happened, from getting ready, to the pre wedding shots, the ceremony, dinner, speeches and the dancing. They have a very unique and artistic way of photographing moments and we couldn’t recommend WhiteSmoke more highly!

Everyone says the wedding day is a blur which it is. I hardly remember anything, and it had nothing to do with the vodka shot we did with the bread and salt at the end of the ceremony. I thankfully had Kasia and Ania from Beautiful Day wedding planners helping me every step of the way. Without them I couldn’t have found all the wonderful people including Dorota and Michal who made the day turn out the way I had wanted. Bruno and I live in London, and our parents live in Canada, so we needed lots of help.

I found my dress at David Fielden in London, a classic but girlie look with lace, tulle and a bow. I had a bridal makeup lesson at Jemma Kidd so did my own, and my hair was done by Agnieszka Fital with lily of the valley as it was in season. My stunning Dior earrings were a wedding gift from Bruno. My shoes were from Kate Spade with a golden glitter heel and “I Do” in blue sparkles across the bottom. My 1920’s bag was borrowed from a friend. My bouquet was a mixture in pale colours.

My flower girl Maya wore a dress with tulle and a matching wreath to my bouquet. Her twin brother Maks was very dapper, as were Bruno’s sons Luke and Christopher in their converse trainers and J Crew bowties. They carried wooden hearts down the aisle ahead of me with “Here Comes the Bride”. Bruno wore a Thom Sweeney made to measure midnight blue suit with a Prada shirt and a pale silver tie.

Most of the guests stayed at the classy Le Regina hotel, and we welcomed them to Warsaw with a giftbag consisting of Zubrowka vodka, shot glasses engraved with our names, Polish and Canadian sweets and red and white felt coasters from a friend’s amazing US-based tableware company (www.teroforma.com).

We had a welcome party on Friday night at Villa Foksal with beautiful traditional Polish dancing by Gaik. On Saturday we transported everyone to Patio by double decker bus and we travelled in a vintage 50’s white cadillac – very Elvis! The aisle of Patio was decorated with lots of baby’s breath and candles, and at the front were two trees also made of baby’s breath and lit up as a feature. The Chilli string quartet entertained and played Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer as our recessional song.

The dinner and dancing was downstairs at Ale Gloria, a restaurant I love for being quirkily Polish, pretty and intimate. All the gorgeous hand painted stationery from Momental Designs in Pennsylvania matched the theme of the restaurant from the start with the save the dates. The seating cards (hand painted with a strawberry) were suspended from a huge wreath. The tables were named after places we have travelled and there was a story about each place on the cards. We had over 200 candles and it did get quite warm.

We had a cocktail and canapé reception with klezmer music, and this was followed by a four course dinner and a buffet. The food was truly excellent. We had 36i6 as the live band and they got everyone on the dance floor until the early morning to work off some of the food.

Some small things went wrong but it doesn’t matter, just focus on each other, your families and don’t get worried that you don’t have time to speak for a long time with each person. They’ll understand.

All the moments were artistically, naturally and uniquely captured by our amazing photographers and we are so grateful to them!
